Chile’s steady economic growth has transformed Santiago into one of Latin America’s most modern metropolitan areas, with extensive suburban development, dozens of shopping malls, and impressive high-rise architecture. Althogh the city is the departure point for exploring Chile, here are some worthy places to be visited here: The Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino is Santiago’s finest museum, Cerro San Cristobal Cable Car, for a gut-churning ride and matchless views of the city, rounded off with a plunge in the magnificent hilltop pool, Piscina Tupahue, Mercado Central, where you can try a fresh-as-it-comes seafood lunch, Cerro Santa Lucia, a maze of swirling stairways, turrets and fountains, an essential part of the Santiago experience, Los Dominicos Market, the best place to hunt for souvenirs, where you’ll find a huge range of beautiful handicrafts as well as antiques, books, fossils, a restaurant, and live music and dancing at weekends and last but not least, Bellavista, with narrow streets and village-like atmosphere, the capital’s arty, bohemian quarter, make for a great wander.

Nicknamed The Jewel of the Pacific orValpo, Valparaíso was declared a world heritage site based upon its improvised urban design and unique architecture. In 1996, the World Monuments Fund declared Valparaíso’s unusual system of funicular elevators (highly-inclined cable cars) one of the world’s 100 most endangered historical treasures. Going to Valparaiso and not going on the ascensores is like going to Venice and not taking a ride on a Gondola. They are also of practical use as they help many local people get to the higher parts of town, saving them from having to walk otherwise long and steep pedestrian routes.

  Viña del Mar is in Central Chile and is a beach resort town close to Santiago de Chile. It‘s the most important beach in country. It plays host to a famous music festival every year in mid-February. Here are some of the most important attractions in Viña: La Quinta Vergara, a beautiful garden with trees from China and Canada for example and where Festival de Viña takes places every year in the last week of february, Plaza del Reloj, near the beaches, where is a clock with the numbers made of flowers, Castillo Wulf, an old castle built by German immigrants, the famously Paseo Arabe and the Open Air Museum of Naval Artillery.

A special territory of Chile annexed in 1888, Easter Island is widely famous for its 887 extant monumental statues, called moai, created by the early Rapanui people. It is a World Heritage Site with much of the island protected within the Rapa Nui National Park. Historically the island has experienced a collapse of its ecosystem, with extinction of many of its prehistoric species; these events were associated with over-exploitation of the island‘s resources. The underlying island geology is one of extinct volcanoes.
